3000 Secondees

In March 2019, Jawun placed the 3000th secondee to live and work in an Indigenous community. This was a major milestone in supporting Indigenous-led empowerment, and forging connections between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

“Secondees are a real treasure, genuine people with fantastic skills. They’re not just coming in to do things for us, but helping us to do it ourselves. They’ve empowered us to pursue our objectives and aspirations, and are raising awareness through relationships. People talk about reconciliation, whereas corporate Australia is actually doing something about it.”

Nolan Hunter, Kimberley Land Council

“Working at the Kimberley Land Council was such a privilege. I learnt so much about what I did not know, reigniting my interest in Indigenous Australia. I’ve stayed connected by volunteering at KLC AGMs, joining the Jawun Alumni Committee and exploring connections in Melbourne. I loved every minute of my secondment.”

“The relationship between Gumatj and Jawun has become a bond of trust and learning. Without Jawun’s support in bringing almost unobtainable experience to our region and organisation, many of our projects would not have been successful or even possible.”

Klaus Helms, Gumatj Aboriginal Corporation

“I will be forever grateful for my time working with Gumatj. It was an opportunity to share knowledge, learn from community leaders and grow immensely as a person. I left with new friendships and great appreciation and respect for the local Indigenous community.”
